Alexii’s Global Education Guide
The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program (Fulbright TGC) is a year-long professional learning opportunity sponsored by the U.S. Department of State that equips K–12 educators to bring an international perspective to their schools. Through rigorous online coursework, a national symposium, and a two- to three-week international field experience, fellows collaborate with global peers to develop cutting-edge pedagogical practices. Ultimately, the program empowers teachers to foster global competence in their local classrooms, preparing students to navigate and succeed in an interconnected world.
Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms allowed me to put meaning, words, and academic resource to a concept that seemed innate. The biggest compliment I ever received was a family friend saying “you are a citizen of the world”. This guide was created to put validity and research to something I tell my students often.
“Obviously, I want you to feel prepared for your Global History Regents (state exam) but I care more that you leave my classroom with a greater sense of empathy and curiosity for the world around you.”

From July 12th to July 28th, I will be teaching, collaborating, and visiting classrooms in Davao, Philippines. This immersive fieldwork is driven by a clear mission: to build sustainable, cross-cultural bridges. My primary goal during this fellowship is to research the overarching question How does the Philippine narrative of the Cold War challenge Western-centric interpretations of U.S. intervention, and in what ways can these perspectives be integrated to create a more globally competent curriculum for diverse learners?
I also hope to establish a virtual exchange program for the 2026–2027 school year, directly connecting my 10th-grade History and ENL students in the Bronx with their peers in Davao.
Through this site, you can follow the live development of this partnership, from classroom observations in Mindanao to the curriculum design we will implement this fall.
Whether you are a fellow educator, a student, or a global citizen curious about interconnected learning, this guide is here to support you. Use it at your own pace, return to it often, and let it grow with you. Global education isn’t just about going far—it’s about reaching wide, thinking deeply, and connecting meaningfully wherever you are.
Global Education in NYC Schools
In New York City public schools—where our classrooms serve as micro-communities of the world representing hundreds of languages and cultures—global education is not a luxury, but a vital demographic reality. By transforming our diverse hallways into a launchpad for global competence, a global curriculum serves as a critical mirror that validates our students' immigrant heritages while equipping them to navigate NYC’s hyper-connected professional landscape.
This lens is especially urgent in under-resourced communities, where students must be empowered to see themselves not just as bystanders, but as changemakers and leaders capable of transforming their own neighborhoods. Introducing a global perspective expands their horizons far beyond the borders of their immediate hometowns, showing those who feel confined by their circumstances that the world is vast, full of opportunity, and entirely within their reach to explore, impact, and lead.
